RIP

I pod, I phone, I pad

During the last few years I gadgets have really become popular, the I pod, then the I phone, next was the I pad. While I was in Fry's today i spotted what I think will be the new I . This is what I'm going to be investing my unemployment check on.

DALEY RANCH

Daley Ranch covers a little over 3,000 acres on the North side of Escondido. It was settled in 1870 by Robert Daley who moved here from San Fransisco. Daley ran a horse and cattle ranch until he died in 1916, then his family sold the ranch and moved to Jamul and started a dairy ranch. Daley Const co who used to be in Murphy Canyon has there roots in Jamul.
The Daily family continued to use the property as a summer home until 1980 when they sold it to Mobil oil. Mobil later sold it to Shea Homes in 1990 who in turn sold it to the City of Escondido in 1997.

Meg

So remember back during the Calif governor campaign when Meg Whitman's motor coach pulled along side mine. I got out and was taking pictures. Then she surprised me when she stepped out of her coach and with two video cameras behind her  walked right up to me and asked what I thought about her plan to bring jobs back to Calif. And when I answered "well, now that I'm getting the hang of this unemployment, I'm more concerned about my next extension" she just turned and walked away without a howdy do or anything.

So Meg, now that were both unemployed I just got one question http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ORkEOma_iY

Drug tunnels

Every 6 months or so you see a news story about how our Dept of Homeland Security has found a new drug smuggling tunnel going under the boarder and coming up in some building near the boarder.
Well after many years in the excavation trade and actually reaching the level of Dr. of Excavation I have developed a keen eye to locate and identify these tunnels by paying attention to some subtle hints as shown below.

Ped Ramps

Way back when before handicap ramps where installed at intersections people who were sight impaired could tell they were about to step into traffic because they would have to step off the curb and into the street, or fall on their face in the slow lane if they didn't realize they were stepping off the curb.
Then after wheelchair ramps were installed the sight impaired people could wander right into traffic and not know it, so the transportation scientist devised a plan to retrofit all the ramps with truncated plates (dimpled surfaces) at a cost ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 per intersection.
My solution at a cost of $25 per ramp, plus labor http://www.goldviolin.com/Motion-Sensor-Croaking-Frog-p/91693.htm
I think 1 frog, solar powered, glued down at each ramp would serve to warn not only sight impaired people but also people who may be txting while walking.

AND AS LONG AS WE'RE AT IT, SHOULDN'T WE KEEP THEM IN THE CROSSWALK
